Carson feeding @ 23 days old

This photo just cracks me up! He looks so miserable as I try to burp him.

Ahhhh, much better!

He took the whole bottle and it wasn't too much of a fight. Can't you see Kate in his profile? I see it more everyday.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. When we were in the NICU stage I would read blogs of post-NICU babies for inspiration, so I'm glad to know we can be that for someone else. Sorry for what's about to be an overly long post, I fear. We definitely had the sleepy baby phase. Sometimes we even wanted them to cry so they weren't sleeping -- though eventually we regretted that wish! You probably learned many of the same techniques in the NICU, but we would: flick their feet; tickle their backs (preemies don't like that); change their diapers; burp them sitting up (even if they hadn't eaten, just to jostle them); make sure they weren't swaddled so they weren't too warm/comfy. I think one problem is that we handled them more delicately than the nurses who really worked hard to keep them up. We would also twirl the bottles in their mouths, and try to tickle the roof of their mouths with the nipples. And rub their heads. I used to say while I did it, "mommy's being annoying" for my own sake, I think. Our worst moment was after we were all home, and Sarah would not stay awake to eat, and we were worried she was losing weight, and we ended up stripping her down to her diaper, putting her on top of the NY Times magazine (which is a little cold), spinning the magazine around, and saying, "you got no friends, you're naked on the NY Times magazine." We had to cope with humor, somehow. As they get bigger and hungrier and less sleep I'm sure they'll become better eaters, and you won't be able to get them to sleep when you desperately want them too. Until then, just keep trying and you'll get that food in. Sorry if this isn't the most helpful, but thanks for keeping us updated.
